WSPTA's legislative platform is made up of three components:

Issues

​

During the 46th Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly in 2024, delegates debated and voted on legislative issues that established WSPTA’s priorities for the 2025–2026 legislative cycle. Seven new issues were adopted and ranked, resulting in five Top Five legislative priorities: closing funding gaps; addressing the student mental health crisis; addressing funding, inclusion, and supports in special education; preventing and reducing gun violence and suicide; and expanding school construction funding options. Two additional issues were placed on the “also supported” list: increasing educational equity by closing the digital divide and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change.

During the 47th Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly in 2025, delegates maintained the existing Top Five priorities and added Restoring Funding for Education and Wrap Around Supports to the “also supported” list. This addition reflected concerns about reductions in federal funding for programs and services that support students and families. WSPTA continues to prioritize advocacy efforts on these issues.

Principles

​

Long-term legislative principles are separated into five overarching categories and are broader in scope. They allow members to advocate on a wide range of issues affecting children and youth across the state.

During the 46th Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly, delegates continued to advance WSPTA’s existing legislative principles. During the 47th Assembly, delegates adopted additional positions related to budget, revenue, and funding, including opposition to private school vouchers, and strengthened the organization’s focus on food insecurity as a child and youth well-being issue.

Resolutions

​

Long-term resolutions are available for members to help guide their advocacy efforts both locally and at the state level and cover a wide range of topics affecting children and youth.

During the 46th Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly, delegates adopted three new resolutions: Equitable Access to School Library Information and Technology Programs; Inclusive and Historically Accurate Standards, Curricula, and Practices; and Ensuring Graduation with a Meaningful High School Diploma. Delegates also amended the resolution on the uninterrupted operation of schools.

During the 47th Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly, delegates considered and adopted a new resolution addressing the rights and services of immigrant children and youth. Delegates also amended existing resolutions addressing digital and internet safety and LGBTQ+ inclusion, while considering the retirement of one previously adopted resolution.
